Powered wheelchairs & batteries
The part that goes wrong. Battery chemistry and watt-hours decide whether your chair flies, and the rules differ depending on whether the battery can be removed.
"Wheelchairs with the electric motors for the transport of sick and other battery-powered mobility aids are accepted for carriage as checked baggage only with the prior consent of the carrier." The airline's dangerous-goods table marks "the permission of the carrier(s) is required" = YES and "the aircraft commander must be notified" = YES for every powered-wheelchair category.
