Lithium batteries are accepted provided they meet the UN Manual of Tests and Criteria, Part III, sub-section 38.3. Batteries whose rating markings are unclear or have been tampered with are refused.

Where the battery cannot be removed: "the battery is installed in the wheelchair/mobility aid — there is no maximum watt-hour limit". The design must protect the battery, it must be firmly attached, the circuit disconnected per the manufacturer's instructions and the terminals protected against short circuit; the chair travels in the hold. No spare battery may be carried in this case.

Where the battery is removable: "the battery must not exceed 300 Wh, or, where the device requires two batteries, 160 Wh each". Removed batteries must be taken out per the manufacturer's instructions, protected against short circuit (terminals taped or in a battery case), each in its own protective case, and carried into the cabin.

Sealed wet (Special Provision A67), nickel-metal-hydride (A199) and dry batteries (A123) are all listed as acceptable. Spares: one A67 sealed wet battery, two A199 NiMH batteries, or two A123 dry batteries.

Sealed wet batteries meeting Special Provision A67 are accepted (one spare allowed). Non-sealed wet batteries: if non-removable the chair must protect the battery, keep it secured and have the circuit disconnected — "if the wheelchair cannot always be operated upright, or is not sufficiently protected, it cannot be carried"; if removable it must be taken out and shipped in strong, rigid, leak-proof packaging secured against tipping, with absorbent material, and no spare is allowed.

The circuit must be disconnected per the manufacturer's instructions and both poles protected against short circuit (taped or enclosed in a battery container), with the battery firmly attached to the chair. "This way up" labels are applied to both sides; the chair is kept upright throughout loading and secured in the hold so it cannot slide.

"Because a wheelchair cannot be placed in the aircraft cabin, a wheelchair you bring yourself must be checked in." Separately, assistive devices taken into the cabin are not counted against the carry-on allowance and may be stowed first-come first-served where there is space — but for wheelchairs Suparna says checking is required.

Same 24-hour deadline for bringing an electric wheelchair, when Suparna also confirms the battery type by phone. Then reach the check-in desk at least 2 hours before ordinary check-in closes, with the chair's instruction manual. (Stretcher and oxygen passengers have a separate 48-hour rule.)

Suparna asks whether you can walk unaided, how far, and whether you can manage stairs. Walk-up requests are met only if resources allow, and are prioritised for WCHC (no self-care) and WCHS (partial) over WCHR passengers. If your flight is rescheduled you must re-book the service.

"For passengers who must rely on a wheelchair to move about, Suparna allows one wheelchair to be checked free of charge on top of the free checked-baggage allowance." The checked-baggage page adds that necessary aids for disabled passengers (folding wheelchair, walking stick, prosthesis) are carried free. Passengers who are not dependent on a wheelchair pay excess-baggage rates if over the allowance.

"Suparna staff must not require a qualified disabled passenger to sign a disclaimer or statement waiving the right to claim for damage to or loss of an assistive device, except where it was already damaged when accepted." Separately, the dangerous-goods page makes the passenger liable for losses caused to the airline if a lithium wheelchair battery leaks.

Boarding and deplaning assistance "includes, as needed, staff, an ordinary wheelchair, a dedicated narrow on-board wheelchair, passenger stairs and lifting equipment". Suparna recommends that passengers who need the cabin wheelchair travel with family or a carer.

Suparna and its ground agents must provide boarding/deplaning assistance (staff, ordinary wheelchair, on-board narrow wheelchair, stairs, lifts), use an air bridge where possible, and must not leave a passenger who cannot move independently in a wheelchair unattended for more than 30 minutes. Priority boarding and staggered deplaning are offered.
