Powered wheelchairs & batteries
The part that goes wrong. Battery chemistry and watt-hours decide whether your chair flies, and the rules differ depending on whether the battery can be removed.
Not published. Madagascar Airlines never distinguishes a powered from a manual wheelchair: no page states whether a battery-powered chair is accepted, or on what terms.
Not published for mobility aids. The prohibited-items page bans lithium batteries above 160 Wh and battery-powered electrical devices above 160 Wh from cabin and hold on all flights (hoverboards, e-bikes, large power tools) with no wheelchair carve-out, and the FAQ list of « articles strictement interdits à bord » includes « Batterie » and « Toute batterie au lithium : powerbank ». Neither text mentions wheelchairs either way.

Not published for wheelchairs. The only watt-hour figure on the site is the general 160 Wh ceiling on the prohibited-items page, which carries no mobility-aid carve-out — confirm with the airline before travelling with a power chair.

Not published for batteries. The FAQ tells passengers carrying battery-powered equipment « assurez-vous qu'ils sont autorisés à bord avant le voyage » (make sure they are cleared before you travel) but names no form or spec sheet. A medical certificate is required on flights from the provinces for passengers needing medical assistance including wheelchair use, and may be requested elsewhere depending on the cause of the reduced mobility.

The prohibited-items page bans every lithium battery and battery-powered electrical device above 160 Wh from both cabin and hold with no wheelchair exemption, and the FAQ's strictly-prohibited list names « Batterie » and « Toute batterie au lithium » outright; a power chair should be cleared with the airline in writing before booking. The FAQ also warns « il n'y a pas d'alimentation électrique disponible en vol » — there are no power outlets on board, so nothing can be recharged in flight.
Manual wheelchairs
« Si vous voyagez avec votre fauteuil roulant … veuillez nous informer … au moins 72 heures avant le départ. » CGT Art. 17 §4 a) confirms the chair itself is carried: « Les dispositifs ou matériels d'assistance, fauteuil roulant, canne, chien de guide sont transportés gratuitement. » Separately, CGT Art. 7 §2 a) makes acceptance of the PASSENGER (« passagers à mobilité réduite ») subject to prior agreement — see manual notes.

Not published for wheelchairs. The FAQ does list what may come into the cabin — « Les béquilles, cannes, déambulateurs, seringues, concentrateurs et ventilateurs sont autorisés à bord » (crutches, canes, walking frames, syringes, concentrators and ventilators) — and a folding wheelchair is not among them; nothing on the site says a chair may be stowed in the cabin.

Not published. No maximum wheelchair size is stated. (The general checked-bag rule of L+W+H ≤ 158 cm is a baggage limit, not a stated wheelchair limit, and mobility aids are carried outside the allowance.)
Not published for mobility aids. General checked baggage is capped at 20 kg per piece with L+W+H ≤ 158 cm, and the special/oversized-baggage page sends anything over 32 kg to freight, but wheelchairs are carried free under CGT Art. 17 §4 a) and are not listed under either rule.

Not published. The airline describes airport wheelchair assistance to and from the boarding gate, through customs and to baggage reclaim, but says nothing about returning the passenger's own chair at the aircraft door.

Assistance is offered to and from the boarding gate, through customs and to baggage reclaim, and to the aircraft (WCHS). Fully immobile passengers (WCHC) must travel with an accompanying person. CGT Art. 7 §2 a): acceptance for carriage of passengers with reduced mobility « doit faire l'objet d'un accord préalable » (requires prior agreement), and such passengers must present themselves for check-in 2 hours before departure. CGT Art. 7 §1 lists the grounds on which a PRM/MEDA case may be refused, including needing individual care in flight without a suitable companion.
Booking & cost
« Veuillez nous informer de votre fauteuil roulant ou de tout autre besoin d'aide à la mobilité au moins 72 heures avant le départ. » The FAQ repeats it: inform the call centre or fill in the contact form « au moins 72 h avant le vol ». Where a medical certificate is required (flights from the provinces) it must be issued at the latest one week before departure and validated by an approved doctor at the latest 4 hours before take-off. Any passenger needing special assistance must check in 2 hours before departure (CGT Art. 7).

A written complaint is required as soon as the damage is discovered and at the latest 7 days after collecting the bag (21 days for delay), and any action must be brought within 2 years. On board
Not published. No aisle/on-board wheelchair is mentioned anywhere. The FAQ's list of mobility and medical equipment allowed on board — « béquilles, cannes, déambulateurs, seringues, concentrateurs et ventilateurs » — contains no aisle chair, and the fleet is 70–72-seat ATR 72s.

Not published — no accessible-lavatory information appears on the site or in the CGT.
« Les passagers qui sont complètement immobilisés (WCHC) … qui doivent être portés pour monter l'escalier et le redescendre ainsi que pour se rendre à leur siège et le quitter — un accompagnateur est obligatoire pour son assistance à bord. » CGT Art. 17 §3 adds that the airline may require a companion where you cannot evacuate the aircraft unaided. Airport staff assist with movement through the terminal and out to the aircraft, but the airline does not undertake the seat transfer itself.

CGT Art. 17 §2 : « En aucun cas, les sièges aux issues de secours ne pourront être attribués aux passagers présentant une infirmité ou un handicap, ou accompagnés par un chien guide dans la cabine. » (Under no circumstances may exit-row seats be allocated to a passenger with an infirmity or disability, or one accompanied by a guide dog in the cabin.) No movable-armrest or bulkhead policy is published; seats can be chosen at booking, in « ma réservation » or by phone.

Fleet detail. Fleet is five ATR 72s (four ATR 72-500, one ATR 72-600, 64–72 seats). No hold-door or hold-compartment dimension is published for any of them. The airline does say that « en raison des dimensions des portes de l'appareil » a stretcher passenger cannot be boarded on ATR72 flights — the only aircraft-door constraint it publishes.
Worth knowing
Site is bilingual FR/EN; the disability page, the FAQ and the Conditions Générales de Vente et de Transport are fuller in French and were read in French (the CGT itself states the French version prevails over the English). Madagascar Airlines DOES publish, in the contract of carriage, that assistive devices, a wheelchair, a cane and a guide dog are carried free of charge (Art. 17 §4 a), that an exit-row seat may never be given to a disabled passenger (Art. 17 §2), that acceptance of a PRM requires prior agreement and check-in 2 h before departure (Art. 7 §2), and a 1,131 DTS checked-baggage liability cap (Art. 14 §6). It publishes NOTHING about the wheelchair as an object beyond that: no weight or size limit, no powered-chair policy, no battery rule of any kind, no gate delivery, no aisle chair. The only watt-hour figure anywhere on the site is a blanket 160 Wh ban on lithium batteries and battery-powered devices in cabin and hold, and the FAQ's strictly-prohibited list names « Batterie » and « Toute batterie au lithium » with no wheelchair carve-out — a power-chair user must clear this with the airline. There is no in-flight electrical power, so nothing can be recharged. Fully immobile (WCHC) passengers are required to bring their own attendant. Fleet is five ATR 72s; stretchers are refused on ATR72 because of the door dimensions.
