Who to contact

Transcribed from the airline’s own pages, exactly as it labels them.

Gulf Air publishes no dedicated accessibility phone line and no accessibility e-mail address anywhere on gulfair.com — the numbers above are the general Worldwide Contact Centre lines, which is the channel Gulf Air itself names for special assistance and medical clearance ("Gulf Air Reservations must be informed at least 48 hours prior to the flight"). The country dropdown on /en/contact-us is rendered client-side; the full list was recovered from the page's embedded data and covers 47 cities, almost all of which resolve to the eight distinct numbers above (all US cities share +1 888 359 4853; all Indian cities share +91 22 7112 0049; all Pakistani cities share 021 3565 4483; all Saudi cities share 0135109595). Iraq is served by the Bahrain number. Medical clearance is decided by the Head of Medical Services at Gulf Air headquarters in Muharraq, Bahrain.

Powered wheelchairs & batteries

The part that goes wrong. Battery chemistry and watt-hours decide whether your chair flies, and the rules differ depending on whether the battery can be removed.

Powered chairs accepted
Not published

Not published. The Medical Cases, Personal items, Baggage information, Special baggage and Prohibited Items pages and the Conditions of Carriage never mention a powered, battery or electric wheelchair — only 'a fully collapsible wheelchair'. Gulf Air has no dangerous-goods page (/baggage/dangerous-goods and /restricted-items 404); CoC 8.3.1.1 just incorporates the ICAO TI and IATA DGR by reference, 'further information available from us on request'. A powered-chair user must clarify with the airline directly.

Lithium-ion batteries
Not published

Not published for mobility aids. Gulf Air's only published lithium rules cover CPAP/POC medical devices (100–160 Wh, max two spares in carry-on), smart bags (battery must be removable) and power banks (max two per person, each 100 Wh or less, cabin only, never in checked baggage, and the Xiaomi PB2030MI banned outright) — none of which is a wheelchair rule.

Watt-hour cap — battery stays in the chair
Not published

Not published. gulfair.com never mentions a wheelchair battery at all, so no watt-hour figure exists for one left installed in the chair; Gulf Air's only lithium limits are the CPAP/POC medical-device ones. ICAO/IATA default applies — see global rules.

Watt-hour cap — battery removed into the cabin
Not published

Not published; Gulf Air does not address removing a wheelchair battery into the cabin. ICAO/IATA default applies — see global rules.

Watt-hour cap — spare battery
Not published

Not published for mobility aids. For CPAP/POC devices Gulf Air allows lithium-ion batteries over 100 Wh but not over 160 Wh, max two spares in carry-on; the Prohibited Items page separately caps power banks at 100 Wh each, maximum two per person. Both are portable-electronics rules, not wheelchair rules, so neither is imported here.

Spare batteries permittedmaximum number under any published configuration
Not published

Not published for mobility aids. Two spare batteries are allowed in carry-on for an approved CPAP/POC device only.

Battery must be removed
Not published

Not published — Gulf Air does not say whether a wheelchair battery must be removed.

Non-spillable batteriesgel, AGM, sealed lead-acid, dry cell
Not published

Not published — no gel / AGM / sealed-lead-acid mobility-aid rule.

Wet / spillable batteries
Not published

Not published — Gulf Air gives no wet/spillable wheelchair-battery rule.

Terminal protection & immobilisation
Not published

Not published for wheelchairs. Gulf Air requires spare CPAP/POC batteries to be 'packaged and protected from short circuit and physical damage', but states no wheelchair terminal-insulation or immobilisation requirement.

Paperwork the airline wants
Not published

No battery spec sheet or MSDS demanded. A Carriage of Medical Passengers (CMP) form completed by the treating doctor is required only where the passenger's condition needs special in-flight care or supervision.

Size limit for a powered chair
Not published

Not published — Gulf Air gives no powered-wheelchair size limit or hold-door figures.

Weight limit for a powered chair
Not published

Not published — no weight cap for a powered wheelchair; mobility aids are exempt from the 32 kg repacking rule but no upper figure is given.

Returned at the aircraft door
Not published

Not published — no statement about returning a powered chair at the aircraft door.

The complete absence of any powered/battery wheelchair text on gulfair.com (English and Arabic) is the single biggest gap in Gulf Air's published policy.

Manual wheelchairs

Manual chairs accepted
Yes

Personal items carried without additional charge include 'A fully collapsible wheelchair (please note that this will be loaded in the hold at the departure gate)' and 'a pair of crutches and/or braces or other prosthetic device provided that the customer is dependent on them'.

Folding chair may travel in the cabin
No

Gulf Air states the fully collapsible wheelchair 'will be loaded in the hold at the departure gate' — it is taken from the passenger at the gate rather than stowed in the cabin. No in-cabin wheelchair stowage is offered.

In-cabin stowage limit
Not published

Not applicable / not published — Gulf Air loads a collapsible wheelchair in the hold at the gate rather than stowing it in the cabin.

Size limit for a checked manual chair
Not published

No maximum wheelchair dimensions published. The 158 cm / 190 x 75 x 65 cm figures on the baggage pages are for ordinary and oversized sports baggage, not mobility aids, so they are not recorded here.

Weight limit for a manual chair
Not published

No weight limit published for mobility aids — and they are expressly exempt from the general rule: 'No single baggage may exceed 32 kg or the maximum dimensions of 158 cm (62 inches). Baggage over 32 kg must be repacked (except for mobility aids)'.

Returned at the aircraft door
Not published

Gulf Air says the collapsible wheelchair is loaded into the hold at the departure gate, but does not say whether it is returned at the aircraft door on arrival or at the baggage belt.

Gulf Air limits how many wheelchair passengers each flight can take: 'Any group of disabled travellers should obtain approval prior to departure from the Head of Medical Services at Gulf Air as there is a maximum number of wheelchair passengers that can be accepted on each flight/aircraft.'

Booking & cost

Advance notice requiredhours before scheduled departure
72h

Where medical clearance is needed, the treating doctor must complete the CMP application online at least 72 hours before departure (medical report no more than 14 days old); clearance can take up to three days. A plain wheelchair request needs no clearance but 'wheelchairs can be provided at most airports if a request is made at least two days before the date of travel' (48 h); medical equipment / CPAP / POC needs 48 h; travel-escort requests at least one week.

How to request assistance
Request wheelchair assistance and help stowing mobility aids through 'Manage My Booking' (or in the Passenger Details section when booking); medical clearance via the online CMP form

Medical Cases page: wheelchair assistance at the airport, during boarding and on arrival, help stowing mobility aids or medical equipment, special meals and seat selection are requested through 'Manage My Booking', with no medical clearance unless the condition needs special in-flight care. CoC 7.3 adds that, subject to EC Regulation 1107/2006 and (US flights) 14 CFR Part 382, acceptance of 'persons who are disabled or have reduced mobility … is subject to prior arrangement with us'; once accepted, carriage cannot later be refused on that basis unless the condition worsens.

Charge for carrying the aid
No fee

Gulf Air does not charge to carry the aid: a fully collapsible wheelchair is listed among the personal items carried at no extra charge, and mobility aids are exempt from the 32 kg repacking rule. Separately, Conditions of Carriage 7.6 warns that 'wheelchair services at airports may incur a charge. Bahrain International Airport currently charges for wheelchair services; such fees shall not be applicable on flights to or from the U.S.A.' — an airport service fee for a loaner chair, not a fee for carrying your own.

Mobility devices carried free
Not published

No number published. The free personal-items list allows 'a fully collapsible wheelchair' and 'a pair of crutches and/or braces or other prosthetic device provided that the customer is dependent on them', but Gulf Air does not state how many mobility devices may be carried.

If they damage your chair
Limited by international convention; Gulf Air expressly disclaims liability for scratches, dents and protruding parts such as wheels, straps and handles

Baggage information: 'Gulf Air assumes no liability for scratches, minor cuts, and dents or items that protrude from baggage, such as wheels, luggage straps, and handles… Gulf Air does have liability for loss, delay, or major damage to baggage which is limited by international convention', with a higher value declarable at check-in for a fee; damage must be notified in writing within 7 days. Gulf Air never restates the ACAA full-value mobility-aid rule, saying only that on covered US flights 'we will comply with all requirements of … 14 C.F.R. Part 382'.

On board

On-board aisle chair
Not published

Unclear. Gulf Air says it offers 'a range of standard equipment such as stretchers, wheelchairs available upon request', but does not say whether an on-board aisle chair is carried on the aircraft.

Accessible lavatory
Not published

Not published — no accessible-lavatory information for any Gulf Air aircraft type.

Crew help you transfer
Yes

'Permanently disabled wheelchair passengers who do not require individual attention during the flight, but would need help at the airport, boarding and disembarkation, can request this assistance when booking their tickets. No medical clearance is required.' But under 'Condition of Acceptance' a relative or guardian must deliver the passenger to the check-in counter and meet them in the arrival hall, and cabin crew are trained in first aid only.

Seating & movable armrests
No exit-row seat: 'Medical case passengers are not entitled for the exit row seat'; a passenger travelling with a caregiver, or with any condition preventing them from performing emergency procedures, is also excluded

Prepaid Seat Selection T&Cs: an exit-row occupant must be able to 'reach, locate and operate the emergency exit … and quickly pass through', understand crew instructions in English, 'not have any condition that prevents you from undergoing emergency procedures', be 14+, and 'not be travelling with a caregiver'; and 'Medical case passengers are not entitled for the exit row seat'. No movable-armrest or bulkhead policy is published; other seat selection is via Manage My Booking.

Worth knowing

DEEPENING PASS (2026-07-29, second sweep): the dangerous-goods route was chased to the end and Gulf Air has no dangerous-goods page — /en/help/baggage/dangerous-goods, /restricted-items, /mobility-aids, /en/help/special-assistance and /en/flying-with-us/before-you-travel/special-assistance all return 404. The Prohibited Items page (the site's de-facto DG page) and the full Special Baggage page were read end to end: neither mentions a wheelchair, a mobility aid or a wheelchair battery. CoC Article 8.3.1.1 only incorporates the ICAO TI and IATA DGR by reference. The absence of a powered-wheelchair policy is therefore confirmed, not merely unfound. Gulf Air carries a fully collapsible manual wheelchair free as a personal item, loaded into the hold at the departure gate, and mobility aids are exempt from the 32 kg repacking rule — but the airline publishes nothing whatsoever about powered/battery wheelchairs, in English or Arabic. Two things a traveller should re-check with the airline: (1) Conditions of Carriage 7.6 says airport wheelchair services may incur a charge and that Bahrain International Airport currently charges for them, except on flights to/from the USA; (2) there is a per-flight cap on wheelchair passengers — groups of disabled travellers need advance approval from the Head of Medical Services in Bahrain. Ventilators are not accepted at all. Temporarily disabled wheelchair passengers (illness or injury) need medical clearance via the CMP form, permanently disabled ones do not. The Arabic Medical Cases page mirrors the English one and adds nothing further on mobility aids. New in this pass: Gulf Air excludes 'medical case passengers' from exit-row seats and also refuses an exit row to anyone travelling with a caregiver; the Worldwide Contact Centre numbers were recovered from the JavaScript-rendered Contact us page; and Gulf Air's only published watt-hour figures are portable-electronics ones (power banks 100 Wh max, two per person, cabin only; CPAP/POC 100–160 Wh, two spares) which must NOT be read as wheelchair limits.
