Accepted only with prior transport approval: "please inform us of the type of battery used and request transport approval from our assistance team when booking or no later than 48 hours before departure". Eurowings requests the aid's safety data sheet and decides case by case; the dangerous-goods table marks the airline's permission as "required". Aids with unsealed/wet (spillable) batteries are refused outright.

Lithium-ion aids (non-removable WCLB, removable WCLX) "may be transported only when they meet the following conditions: the batteries in use must be checked (UN Manual of Tests and Criteria Part III, Subsection 38.3)", and transport approval must be requested at booking or 48 h before departure. Removed and replacement batteries travel in the cabin "in a protective case only".

"Effective October 1, 2025: For wheelchairs or other mobility aids with a permanently installed, non-removable lithium battery, transport will be limited to a maximum of two batteries, each with a capacity of up to 160 Wh." 160 Wh is the per-battery cap, with no more than two such batteries fitted. Bookings confirmed before that date, or journeys starting before 1 October, are carried "without any restrictions".

"If the mobility aid has been specially designed for battery removal, you must remove it in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions. The removed battery may not exceed 300 Wh." For multi-battery aids the accessible-travel page allows max two batteries neither over 300 Wh, or max four none over 160 Wh; the dangerous-goods page words it as "1 power pack with a nominal energy of max. 300 Wh or 2 batteries with a nominal energy of max. 160 Wh".

"A maximum of 1 spare battery with a nominal energy of up to 300 Wh or 2 batteries with a nominal energy of up to 160 Wh (depending on the wheel chair equipment) may be transported per user of a wheelchair or other mobility aid." Spares travel in the cabin in a protective case.

Maximum count 2: one spare lithium battery of up to 300 Wh, or two spares of up to 160 Wh each (the accessible-travel page words this as max four batteries in total of which max two are replacements, none over 160 Wh). For leak-proof wet-cell (gel/AGM) batteries only one spare battery per mobility-aid user is permitted.

Required only where the aid "has been specially designed for battery removal" — then the battery must come out per the manufacturer's instructions and travel in the cabin in a protective case. Otherwise the aid may travel with the battery installed provided the chair is completely switched off and disconnected, the battery protected from short circuit and securely attached.

Enclosed / non-spillable batteries (WCBD, e.g. gel or AGM) are accepted only with prior transport approval and a safety data sheet. A removed leak-proof wet-cell battery "must be packed in robust, rigid packaging and transported as checked baggage", and "a maximum of 1 spare battery may be transported per user of a wheelchair or other mobility aid". The manufacturer must confirm the battery is tested leakproof (or that it is NiMH / dry cell).

"For safety reasons, wheelchairs and other mobility aids powered by unsealed/unenclosed batteries, particularly wet batteries filled with a liquid electrolyte solution that can leak when damaged, cannot be transported on Eurowings flights."

The battery may stay installed only if (a) the wheelchair is completely switched off and disconnected from the power source so it cannot be activated accidentally, (b) the battery is protected from short-circuiting, and (c) it is installed or securely attached and protected from damage. Removable batteries must be protected from short circuit. On handover: "your device is switched off, the key has been removed, and the device is locked".

Requesting carriage of a wheelchair requires a medical certificate, information on the type of power pack or battery, the nominal energy in Wh for lithium packs, and for leak-proof wet-cell (gel/AGM) batteries manufacturer confirmation that the battery has been tested and verified leakproof (or that it is NiMH / dry cell). Eurowings also asks for the aid's safety data sheet or photographs of the battery from all sides, plus the PWD form.

"The maximum dimensions of your wheelchair or mobility aid may not exceed the following loading height measurements: 1.15 metres (Airbus A320 family), 0.86 metres (Boeing 737-800)." 86 cm is the binding (smallest) figure, on the Boeing 737-800. Only a height is published.

"You may travel with up to two mobility aids (e.g. wheelchair and walker) free of charge." Free transport also covers guide/assistance dogs (SVAN), crutches/walking sticks (MEQT) and medical devices for use on board. Airport assistance is free at all EU airports under Regulation (EC) 1107/2006. Seat reservation is free via the call centre (chargeable online).

"In the event of the loss or damage of mobility aids or other mobility and assistance devices, please report this to Eurowings baggage tracing directly on arrival or via our customer service." On liability: "The liability of airlines for checked baggage is regulated by law based on the Montreal Convention." Eurowings excludes liability for wear and tear (scratches, dents, soiling) and for overstuffed, overweight or improperly packed baggage. No mobility-aid full-value rule is published.

Under Annex II of Regulation (EC) 1107/2006 crew accompany you from your seat to the toilet using the on-board manual wheelchair and open food and drink packages, but "there is no obligation to lift the passenger nor help them into the toilet/WC". If you need help using the toilet, eating or taking medication "you are obligated to travel with a companion who assists you".

"You can reserve your seat free of charge via the call centre or book it online for a fee. Seats for our passengers with the designations WCHS or WCHC are usually window seats." No seats in emergency exit rows or the first or last rows for DEAF/BLND/WCHR/WCHS/WCHC/SVAN/DPNA/PPOC/POXY. A companion is seated next to or near you at no additional charge, per Regulation (EC) 1107/2006.
