Battery-powered wheelchairs are carried as checked baggage only, and "the approval of the carrier(s) is required: Yes". Croatia Airlines warns that "this approval is not given in advance in writing. At the latest, it will be given and confirmed verbally when checking in at the airport by check-in staff or Croatia Airlines' representative. All required conditions and limitations set here must be met" — so you fly without written confirmation. Lithium-ion powered mobility aids are accepted with carrier approval, provided the batteries "meet the requirements of each test in the UN Manual of Tests and Criteria, Part III, subsection 38.3". Removed and spare batteries must travel in the passenger cabin in a protective pouch.

Removal is not mandatory for lithium or non-spillable batteries: the battery may stay in the chair if it is "adequately protected against damage by the design of the mobility aid and securely attached" with the electrical circuits isolated; otherwise it is removed per the manufacturer's instructions. A removed lithium battery (max 300 Wh) travels in the cabin; a removed non-spillable battery travels in rigid packaging in the hold. A spillable battery must be removed and shipped as cargo only if the aid cannot be kept upright throughout.

Non-spillable wet batteries (IATA Special Provision A67), nickel-metal hydride (A199) and dry batteries (A123) are accepted as checked baggage with carrier approval. The battery must be either protected by the design of the aid and securely attached with circuits isolated, or removed per the manufacturer's instructions; removed and spare batteries go "in strong, rigid packagings which must be carried in the cargo compartment".

Spillable-battery mobility aids are accepted as checked baggage with carrier approval ("The approval of the carrier(s) is required: Yes"). Conditions: the aid is secured with straps/tie-downs, terminals protected from short circuit, spill-resistant vent caps fitted where feasible, and "if the wheelchair or mobility aid cannot be loaded, stowed, secured and unloaded always in an upright position, the battery must be removed and shipped as cargo". The accessible-travel page adds that "'wet' batteries need to be disconnected and secured".

"In case the wheelchair is battery-powered, it has to be securely attached to the wheelchair and protected from short circuit by insulating the terminals (e.g. by taping over exposed terminals or putting plastic caps). Additionally, 'wet' batteries need to be disconnected and secured." The DG document adds that the aid must be prepared to prevent unintentional activation and secured with straps or tie-downs.

"If you need assistance during your travel it is important to make a request for special service well in advance, preferably 72 hours, and not later than 24 hours before departure." 72 h is the airline's stated preference; 24 h before departure is the hard cut-off. Medical oxygen must be requested no later than 72 h before the flight and costs EUR 60 per flight.
