Do not assume the ICAO 300 Wh default; BoA has not adopted it in writing. The rest carry their own.
Powered wheelchairs & batteries
The part that goes wrong. Battery chemistry and watt-hours decide whether your chair flies, and the rules differ depending on whether the battery can be removed.
Not published, and the gap matters. BoA's mobility-aid text covers « silla de ruedas, muletas, etc. » without distinguishing powered chairs, while its restricted-articles list bans « vehículos impulsados por baterías externas — hover boards, scooters, unicycle u otros con este tipo de batería » and puts lithium-battery skateboards and e-scooters out of both cabin and hold (cargo only). Nothing tells a passenger whether a power chair falls inside or outside that ban — telephone the contact centre before booking.
Not published for wheelchairs. The only lithium rules BoA publishes are a total ban on lithium-battery skateboards, scooters and hoverboards from both cabin and hold (« sí se aceptarán como carga »), and a requirement to remove the lithium batteries from a portable dialysis machine checked into the hold. Cabin baggage must be light enough to be carried on the wheelchair comfortably and safely. BoA does not provide a medical-assistance service: a passenger who is not self-sufficient must travel with a companion who can guarantee their safety, hygiene and health care.
Booking & cost
BoA's airport accompaniment/assistance service must be requested at least 48 hours before the flight through the contact centre or an office; the oxygen and dialysis services use the same 48 h deadline. Damage must be claimed « inmediatamente después de descubrirse el daño y antes de abandonar la terminal aérea ». Worth knowing
Site is behind an Imperva/Distil bot wall — the reader proxy is blocked; pages had to be read by direct HTTPS request and the content extracted from the embedded JSON the Blazor front end renders. BoA publishes a good PMR/assistance page (three levels of wheelchair service, free carriage of mobility aids, gate delivery on request, on-board chair on Boeing/Airbus but not CRJ-200) but NOTHING at all about powered wheelchairs or their batteries — no watt-hour figures, no acceptance procedure, no spillable/gel/lithium distinction. BoA flies to Miami, so a US DOT Complaints Resolution Official page should exist; none was found on boa.bo. There is no dedicated accessibility phone line or e-mail. A traveller with a power chair must telephone before booking. Deepening pass (2026-07-29): the Imperva wall still blocks the reader proxy even with render mode, but BoA's React front end ships every page's text inside a `VIEW_DATA = { SECTIONS: … }` script in the direct-fetch HTML, so the content is fully readable by parsing that JSON. The site map at /Contenido/mapa-de-sitio-hveuly7b-REST_WORLD revealed the Contrato de transporte page (per-country versions for Bolivia, Argentina, Brasil and others) that the first pass never opened; it supplies the liability limits and makes advance notification a condition of accepting a disabled passenger. Two findings a human should weigh. (1) BoA bans « vehículos impulsados por baterías externas » (hoverboards, e-scooters, unicycles) and lithium-battery skateboards from both cabin and hold, cargo only — and never says whether a powered wheelchair is inside or outside that ban. There is still no watt-hour figure, no battery-type rule for a chair and no acceptance procedure anywhere on boa.bo. (2) BoA disclaims liability for « daños menores » from normal handling, expressly including damage to handles and WHEELS — precisely the damage a power chair sustains in a hold — and can accept baggage under « aceptación condicional » with a signed limited-liability form for items with pre-existing wear, worn wheels or fragile content.
