Who to contact

Transcribed from the airline’s own pages, exactly as it labels them.

Ground assistance in the Canary Islands and at Madrid is delivered by the airport authority (Aena) under Regulation (EC) 1107/2006; Binter directs passengers to Aena on (+34) 913 211 000. Recommended airport arrival is 2 hours, or 1 h 30 at La Gomera and El Hierro.

Powered wheelchairs & batteries

The part that goes wrong. Battery chemistry and watt-hours decide whether your chair flies, and the rules differ depending on whether the battery can be removed.

Powered chairs accepted
Yes

'If the wheelchair is mechanically driven, ensure that the battery is disconnected and its terminals are insulated, following the instructions given by the airport personnel.' Carriage is free for up to two aids per person, subject to the fleet size/weight table and dangerous-goods legislation.

Lithium-ion batteries
Not published

No acceptance rule specific to lithium-powered wheelchairs is published. Binter's lithium notice states only that 'mobility aids used by passengers with reduced mobility (PRM) are not classified as Personal Mobility Devices', i.e. the outright ban on battery-powered scooters, hoverboards and segways does not apply to them.

Watt-hour cap — battery stays in the chair
Not published

Not published for mobility aids. Binter's lithium-battery notice sets watt-hour classes for portable electronic devices, power banks and spare batteries only, and gives no cap for a battery installed in a wheelchair. ICAO/IATA default applies — see global rules.

Watt-hour cap — spare battery
Not published

Not published for mobility aids. The lithium notice's spare-battery classes (≤100 Wh; >100–160 Wh with operator approval; >160 Wh cargo only) are the general portable-electronics rules, not a wheelchair spare-battery limit.

Spare batteries permittedmaximum number under any published configuration
Not published

Not published for mobility-aid batteries. Binter's general notice permits 2 spare batteries in the cabin in the 100–160 Wh class, but that is a portable-electronics limit and has not been stated to apply to wheelchair spares.

Battery must be removed
Not published

Not published. Binter requires only that the battery of a mechanically driven wheelchair be disconnected and its terminals insulated at the airport; it does not say whether a removable battery must come out and travel in the cabin.

Size limit for a powered chairAirline’s stated maximum wheelchair size

Same per-fleet table as manual chairs, measured fully folded — ATR72: 143 x 70 x 95 cm (H x W x L); Embraer 195-E2: 84 x 73 x 125 cm; 100 kg on both. Smallest figure in each dimension recorded as the binding constraint.

Returned at the aircraft door
Not published

Not published. Binter does not say whether a powered chair is returned at the aircraft door.

Binter's lithium-battery notice explicitly carves PRM aids out of the banned category: 'Mobility aids used by passengers with reduced mobility (PRM) are not classified as Personal Mobility Devices', so the blanket prohibition on battery-powered bicycles, e-scooters, hoverboards and segways does not apply to wheelchairs.

Manual wheelchairs

Manual chairs accepted
Yes

'If movement in the passenger's own wheelchair is needed, please state so when making the reservation.' Up to two mobility aids per person are carried free, subject to the published per-fleet size and weight table.

Size limit for a checked manual chairAirline’s stated maximum wheelchair size
95 cm long · 70 cm wide · 84 cm high

Binter publishes a per-fleet table of maximum mobility-aid size when fully folded — ATR72: 143 cm H x 70 cm W x 95 cm L; Embraer 195-E2: 84 cm H x 73 cm W x 125 cm L; 100 kg on both. The smallest figure in each dimension is recorded here as the binding constraint; a chair over the table 'will be impossible for us to carry'.

Returned at the aircraft door
Not published

Not published. Binter does not say whether a personal wheelchair is returned at the aircraft door or at baggage reclaim.

Passengers who cannot walk or move, handle their own seat belt, life jacket and oxygen mask, or understand safety instructions must travel with a companion aged 16 or over. At most one non-ambulatory PRM may travel alone on a flight, and no more than 15 PRM may be carried on board.

'We recommend communicating special needs or any relevant information at least 48 hours beforehand.' Free carriage of up to two mobility aids is conditional on '48 hours notification'. For groups, Binter recommends booking one month ahead in case Spanish DGAC authorisation is needed.

WCHC and WCHS passengers get designated seats near — but never at — the emergency exits

'Passenger with reduced mobility in the WCHC and WCHS categories must be allocated seats in the areas nearest the emergency exits but never those seats at the exits.' PRM cannot be seated where they would block crew duties, emergency equipment or evacuation.

Fleet detail. Maximum folded mobility-aid size differs by fleet: ATR72 143 cm H x 70 cm W x 95 cm L; Embraer 195-E2 84 cm H x 73 cm W x 125 cm L. Weight limit is 100 kg on both. Confirm which type operates your flight — the ATR is taller but shorter, the Embraer longer but only 84 cm high.

Worth knowing

The usable detail is in Binter's PRM information sheet (NT-OPT-037, a multilingual PDF), not on the web page. It publishes a hard per-fleet size and weight table — a chair over it 'will be impossible for us to carry' — and the two fleets bind in different dimensions, so the Embraer's 84 cm height and the ATR's 70 cm width are the practical envelope. Binter publishes NO watt-hour limit of any kind for wheelchair batteries; its lithium notice covers portable electronics and spares and expressly says PRM mobility aids are not 'Personal Mobility Devices', so the e-scooter ban does not catch them. Capacity limits matter: max 15 PRM per flight, and at most one non-ambulatory PRM travelling alone (and only if no more than two unaccompanied minors are on the same flight). Two accordion sections on the English special-needs page ('Flight safety' and 'Guide dogs and mobility equipment') are rendered client-side and returned no content through either the direct fetch or the JS-rendering proxy — a human with a browser should open them, as they may add wheelchair detail not in the PDF.
