Asiana's US pages reproduce the DOT "Airline Passengers with Disabilities Bill of Rights" and DOT hotline numbers (800-778-4838 / 800-455-9880 TTY) but do NOT publish an Asiana Complaints Resolution Official (CRO) name, phone or email; the DOT numbers are the regulator's, not the airline's. No TTY/relay or WhatsApp channel of Asiana's own was found.

Powered wheelchairs & batteries

The part that goes wrong. Battery chemistry and watt-hours decide whether your chair flies, and the rules differ depending on whether the battery can be removed.

Powered chairs accepted
Yes

Accepted. Asiana publishes a dedicated table, "Rules for Carrying Batteries of Electronic Wheelchairs and Scooters (for passengers with disabilities, seniors, non-leisure purposes)", and requires notification: "Passengers traveling with a powered wheelchair must notify Asiana Airlines at the time of booking, as special handling procedures may apply to the wheelchair battery."

Lithium-ion batteries
Yes

Lithium batteries have their own row in the electric-wheelchair/scooter table, with capacity limits by whether the battery is removable.

Watt-hour cap — battery stays in the chair
No stated limit

Asiana states there is no watt-hour cap when the battery stays in the chair: "Non-removable Battery: No restriction" (Korean: "배터리 일체형 : 제한 없음").

Watt-hour cap — battery removed into the cabin
300 Wh

"Removable Battery: 300Wh or less" (Korean: "배터리 분리형 : 300wh 이하"). "Detached lithium batteries and power banks can only be carried on board."

Watt-hour cap — spare battery
300 Wh

Spare battery for an electric wheelchair/scooter: "For 1 unit: 300Wh or less; For 2 units: 160Wh or less per unit" (Korean heading: "여분의 배터리"). The English page labels this row "Power Bank"; the Korean original says spare battery.

Spare batteries permittedmaximum number under any published configuration
2

Maximum two: Asiana permits one spare of 300 Wh or less, or two spares of 160 Wh or less each (Korean: "1개일 경우 300wh 이하 / 2개일 경우 각 160wh 이하"). Spares must travel in the cabin.

Battery must be removed
Conditional

Depends on the battery. A battery designed to be removable must come out and travel in the cabin — "Detached lithium batteries and power banks can only be carried on board" — and the Korean disability page says a powered chair needs "measures to remove the battery" ("배터리를 분리해야 하는 조치가 필요"), so notify at booking. A non-removable battery stays installed with no Wh restriction.

Non-spillable batteriesgel, AGM, sealed lead-acid, dry cell
Yes

Non-leakable batteries are named in the same row with "No restrictions" on capacity — "Non-leakable battery type: SLA, VRLA, AGM, etc." Battery type must be declared at booking.

Wet / spillable batteries
Yes

Wet-cell batteries are listed in the electric-wheelchair table with "No restrictions" on capacity. Conditions: "Must check if the battery is removable", "Check if the battery is dry or wet cell upon booking" and "For wet cell, indicate whether it may leak".

Terminal protection & immobilisation
Yes

Asiana's lithium-battery rules require insulation of batteries carried in the cabin: "Batteries must be insulated with tape or placed in a transparent zip-lock bag (one per battery) and must be carried on your person. It is strictly prohibited to store them in the overhead bin." This appears in the general lithium-battery section of the Restricted Items page rather than in the wheelchair table.

Paperwork the airline wants
Yes

The battery's capacity must be readable: "Transportation may be refused if the capacity is not indicated or cannot be confirmed", and the wheelchair table requires staff to "Check battery capacity and detachability". No spec sheet, MSDS or airline form is specified for mobility-aid batteries.

Size limit for a powered chair
Not published

Not published — no maximum powered-chair dimensions and no hold-door figures are given.

Weight limit for a powered chair
Not published

Not published — Asiana states no weight limit for a powered wheelchair.

Returned at the aircraft door
Conditional

The gate-check/gate-return statement covers personal wheelchairs generally and carries an airport exclusion: "Gate delivery and return of personal wheelchairs may not be available at certain airports due to local airport procedures or operational restrictions." Asiana does not separately confirm gate return of a powered chair.

The English and Korean pages differ in force: English says "special handling procedures may apply to the wheelchair battery", the Korean page says removing the battery is a required measure. Treat removal as expected for any removable battery and settle it at booking.

Manual wheelchairs

Manual chairs accepted
Yes

"Passengers traveling with their own wheelchair may use it to travel to the boarding gate and check it at the gate prior to boarding."

Folding chair may travel in the cabin
Not published

Not published — Asiana does not say whether a folding manual wheelchair may be stowed in the cabin. Its published in-cabin size rule (115 cm total linear dimensions) is for musical instruments, not mobility aids.

In-cabin stowage limit
Not published

Not published — no in-cabin stowage dimensions for folding wheelchairs.

Size limit for a checked manual chair
Not published

Not published — Asiana gives no maximum wheelchair size and no hold-door figures.

Weight limit for a manual chair
Not published

Not published for wheelchairs. The 32 kg / 158 cm figures on Asiana's Checked Baggage page are the ordinary checked-bag limits and are not stated to apply to mobility aids.

Returned at the aircraft door
Conditional

Gate check and gate return are offered but with an explicit airport exclusion: "Gate delivery and return of personal wheelchairs may not be available at certain airports due to local airport procedures or operational restrictions." The Korean page repeats this ("해외공항사정에 따라 탑승구 앞에서 휠체어 위탁 및 수취가 불가능 할 수 있습니다").

Wheelchair services at Frankfurt, London, Paris, Rome, Barcelona and Osaka Kansai are managed and operated by the respective airport authorities, not by Asiana.

Booking & cost

Advance notice requiredhours before scheduled departure
Not published

No hours-based deadline is published for wheelchair assistance: "Wheelchair assistance may be requested through the Reservation Center, at the airport, or on the Asiana Airlines website. Same-day requests made at the airport may be subject to extended wait times." For a powered chair the requirement is earlier but not given in hours — "Passengers traveling with a powered wheelchair must notify Asiana Airlines at the time of booking." The only hour figure is for the five designated disability seats: no later than 48 h before departure (Korean page: 24 h domestic).

How to request assistance
Reservation Center, the Asiana website/app booking-details page, or at the airport; US passengers may use the online "Travelers with Disabilities" form

"Wheelchair assistance may be requested through the Reservation Center, at the airport, or on the Asiana Airlines website." The site adds "Request through the Asiana Airlines website or mobile app — You can request or review the service on the booking details page." A separate online form, "Travelers with Disabilities (US only)", is offered for US customers and replies by email.

Charge for carrying the aid
Not published

Not published for the mobility aid itself. Asiana states "Wheelchair assistance is provided at no additional charge" (Korean: "휠체어서비스는 무료로 제공됩니다"), but that is the airport wheelchair-assistance service. Nothing on the Special Assistance or Checked Baggage pages says whether a passenger's own wheelchair is carried free or outside the checked-baggage allowance.

Not published — Asiana does not state how many mobility devices a passenger may check.

If they damage your chair

"The limits of Asiana Airlines' liability for checked baggage is 250 Gold Francs or an equivalent amount (about USD 20.00) per kilogram if the transport is subject to the Warsaw Convention, and up to SDR 1,519 (Special Drawing Rights) per person if the transport is subject to the Montreal Convention." Damage must be reported in writing within 7 days of claiming the bag (21 days if delayed/lost). Asiana publishes no ACAA full-value rule for mobility aids and no loaner-chair commitment.

Requested first-come first-served via the Reservation Center or a sales office no later than 48 h before departure (Korean page: 48 h international, 24 h domestic); availability cannot be guaranteed at the airport. Asiana also allows a personal orthotic positioning device, but not in or adjacent to exit rows.

Worth knowing

Battery rules live on the Restricted Items page, not the disability page; the English table heads the spare-battery row "Power Bank" while the Korean original says "여분의 배터리" (spare battery) — same numbers. Asiana publishes no size or weight limit for a wheelchair, no free-carriage statement for the aid, and no CRO contact despite serving the USA. Wheelchair assistance at Frankfurt, London, Paris, Rome, Barcelona and Osaka Kansai is run by the airport authorities. China-departure flights (e.g. Guangzhou, Beijing) 'strictly limit lithium batteries in checked baggage', which may affect a chair with an installed battery — Asiana does not spell out how this interacts with the mobility-aid table. The 160 Wh figure Asiana publishes for POC/CPAP batteries is a medical-device rule and does NOT apply to wheelchair batteries.
