Air Koryo

IATA JS ICAO KOR Korea, Democratic People's Republic of · www.airkoryo.com.kp (opens in a new tab)

Publishes assistance information but no mobility-aid carriage detail.

Fragments only. Air Koryo publishes some assistance information but not a full mobility-aid policy. What is below is everything it actually states. Everything marked “not published” genuinely is — confirm it with the airline rather than assuming the international baseline applies.

Who to contact

No contact could be transcribed. Air Koryo publishes no accessibility phone number, e-mail address or assistance form that we could find and verify, so its own pages, linked below, are the only route in.

No accessibility contact could be transcribed. Air Koryo's own 'Airkoryo Offices' page (http://www.airkoryo.com.kp/contact/details) and its 'General Conditions' page render completely empty — the CMS serves the navigation chrome and no body content, both through a direct fetch and through a rendering proxy. No phone number, email or assistance form is printed anywhere on the reachable pages, so nothing has been invented here. Requests must be made 'at the time of booking' through whichever office or agent issues the ticket.

3 of the unanswered fields below share one explanation: no watt-hour figure of any kind appears on the site. The rest carry their own.

Powered wheelchairs & batteries

The part that goes wrong. Battery chemistry and watt-hours decide whether your chair flies, and the rules differ depending on whether the battery can be removed.

Powered chairs accepted
Not published

Not published. Air Koryo's site never mentions a battery-powered wheelchair or mobility scooter, in the disability pages or the baggage pages.

Lithium-ion batteries
Not published

Not published — Air Koryo's site says nothing about lithium batteries at all, for wheelchairs or for consumer devices.

Watt-hour cap — battery stays in the chair
Not published
Watt-hour cap — battery removed into the cabin
Not published
Watt-hour cap — spare battery
Not published
Spare batteries permittedmaximum number under any published configuration

Not published — no spare-battery rule is stated.

Non-spillable batteriesgel, AGM, sealed lead-acid, dry cell
Not published

Not published — gel, AGM, sealed lead-acid and dry-cell wheelchair batteries are not mentioned.

Wet / spillable batteries
Not published

Not published for mobility aids. Air Koryo's general restricted-articles list bans 'corrosives such as acids, alkalis and wet cell batteries' from being 'carried within, or as part of passenger's baggage', but no mobility-aid exception or condition is published either way, so a wet-battery chair user must obtain a written answer before travelling.

Terminal protection & immobilisation
Not published

Not published. Air Koryo's Disabled Passengers and baggage pages on airkoryo.com.kp set no terminal-insulation, disconnection or immobilisation requirement; the only battery text on the site is a blanket ban on wet-cell batteries in baggage.

Paperwork the airline wants
Not published

Not published for mobility aids. Documentation is required only for oxygen (a medical certificate, plus a written application letter for a passenger-owned cylinder) and for stretcher travel.

Size limit for a powered chair
Not published

Not published — no dimensions for a powered wheelchair.

Weight limit for a powered chair
Not published

Not published — no weight limit for a powered wheelchair.

Returned at the aircraft door
Not published

Not published.

Air Koryo publishes no powered-mobility-aid policy whatsoever. Anyone flying a power chair on JS must get written confirmation from the office issuing the ticket.

Manual wheelchairs

Manual chairs accepted
Not published

Not published. Air Koryo says it 'will provide special services (wheelchair, stretcher, oxygen cylinder etc.) at the time of embarkation/disembarkation and terminal services' but says nothing at all about carrying a passenger's own manual wheelchair.

Folding chair may travel in the cabin
Not published

Not published. The cabin-baggage rule is one piece per passenger, max 5 kg and 115 cm total dimensions, counted inside the free allowance; no exception or provision for a folding wheelchair is mentioned.

In-cabin stowage limit
Not published

Not published — no in-cabin wheelchair stowage provision exists on the site.

Size limit for a checked manual chair
Not published

Not published — no wheelchair dimensions or hold figures anywhere on the site.

Weight limit for a manual chair
Not published

Not published for mobility aids. Air Koryo's published weights (30 kg business / 20 kg economy free allowance, 75 kg per extra seat for valuable or fragile baggage) are ordinary baggage rules.

Returned at the aircraft door
Not published

Not published — Air Koryo does not say where a checked mobility aid is returned.

Air Koryo's published network is Pyongyang–Beijing, Pyongyang–Shenyang and Pyongyang–Vladivostok. Check-in must be completed no later than 90 minutes before departure; 'if passengers fail to arrive in time or board, Air Koryo assumes no responsibility for them.'

Booking & cost

Advance notice requiredhours before scheduled departure
Not published

No deadline in hours is published. Air Koryo says only that passengers needing 'recumbent travel, oxygen cylinder and movement on wheelchair at terminal or in cabin, need to make a request at the time of booking in advance'.

How to request assistance
Request the wheelchair or other special service at the time of booking

'Those passengers who require special care and services such as recumbent travel, oxygen cylinder and movement on wheelchair at terminal or in cabin, need to make a request at the time of booking in advance.' No phone number, email address or form is published for making the request.

Charge for carrying the aid
Not published

Not published. Air Koryo does not say whether carriage of a passenger's own mobility aid is free or counts against the 20 kg economy / 30 kg business free baggage allowance.

Mobility devices carried free
Not published

Not published — Air Koryo gives no number of mobility aids carried per passenger.

If they damage your chair
US$20 per kg of checked baggage

'The liability of Air Koryo is limited to US$20 per kg of checked baggage. Air Koryo assumes no liability for unchecked baggage, fragile or perishable articles.' A higher limit is available only if a higher value is declared in advance and additional charges are paid. Damage must be reported immediately on arrival at the airport. No mobility-aid-specific liability rule is published — on a per-kilo basis a heavy power chair would be valued far below its replacement cost.

On board

On-board aisle chair
Conditional

Available only on advance request: 'If you need a wheelchair at terminal or on board, you have to make a request at the time of booking in advance', and the special-care list includes 'movement on wheelchair at terminal or in cabin'. Air Koryo does not say which aircraft carry one or whether the request can be refused.

Crew help you transfer
Conditional

Not published

Not published — no movable-armrest, bulkhead or pre-assigned seating rule is stated for passengers with disabilities.

Worth knowing

Air Koryo's website (airkoryo.com.kp, copyright notice still reads 2016) is reachable through a rendering proxy and has a short 'Disabled Passengers' page, but it covers only airport/on-board wheelchair assistance, stretchers and oxygen. There is no policy at all on carrying a passenger's own wheelchair, no battery rules of any kind, and no accessibility contact: the 'Airkoryo Offices' and 'General Conditions' pages both render with zero body content, so no phone number or email could be transcribed and none has been invented. Three things a wheelchair user should know from what IS published: a passenger with no mobility must travel with their own helper; a passenger needing to travel lying down pays four times the adult fare plus the carer's own fare; and baggage liability is capped at US$20 per kilogram of checked baggage, which for a power chair is a small fraction of its value. The general restricted-articles list bans 'wet cell batteries' from baggage with no stated mobility-aid exception. Anyone flying JS with a powered chair must get a written answer from the office issuing the ticket before departure. Rated 'partial' rather than 'researched': the site is up and does address disabled passengers, but the mobility-aid content is fragmentary.
