Only where the wheelchair's design does not adequately protect the battery: then "the battery(ies) must be removed from the wheelchair" and carried in the cabin, maximum 300 Wh. Where the design does protect the battery, it must remain securely attached to the mobility aid.

"Spillable Battery(ies): We do not permit mobility aids with spillable batteries." CONFLICT: Air India's US 'Travelling with Special Needs' page says the opposite — that it "accepts spillable and non-spillable batteries if they are correctly labelled and marked". "The battery terminals must be protected from short circuit by insulating the terminals. For instance, they can be enclosed within a battery container." Removed lithium batteries must have terminals individually protected against short circuits and protected from damage; for non-spillable batteries the electrical circuits must be isolated.
